Google around the corner

This past weekend I was giving a conference on various Internet related technologies to members of my alumni association. One of the topics was related to the number of new technologies that Google is introducing to reach a much bigger marketplace than the one they have right now: the real world. It turns out that this week has been big in this area, as a number of posts have made their intentions very clear.

With tools such as Google Local, Maps, Mobile and Froogle, it´s just matter of time before they put all the elements together and start targeting the average cellphone user by dispatching "targeted ads" to those that happen to be walking by a real store that has paid their AdSidewalk fees. While doing this massively will probably require them fighting a huge legislation battle, the fact remains that by the end of this year most carriers would have the ability to pinpoint a user within a 50-300 mts.

I´m just hoping is not too late for my friends at StepUp.com as they rush to get their product ready from prime time. Who knows, maybe Google will find interesting the fact that they can tell you what you can find inside the stores.
